GrowBiz XChange Networking Event - Birnam

Funding opportunities for business are the theme of our first GrowBiz XChange networking meeting of 2019.

Come along and hear about Perth and Kinross Council Rural Micro Enterprise Fund, and other grant and loan options.  You'll also hear from applicants who have previously been successful in applying for local funds and grants. 

Speakers will include:

  • Alison Seggie,  Enterprise Manager, Perth & Kinross Council
  • A representative from Scottish Growth Fund;
  • James Buchan of Local Energy Scotland. James is a graduate of Abertay University, Dundee and has worked in Local and Community Energy for over 10 years. James has spent 6 years with Local Energy Scotland as a Local Development Officer giving funding, project management and technical advice to over 100 local and Community Energy Projects. For the last 3 years James has been in his current role as Energy Systems Specialist at local Energy Scotland primarily supporting the development of innovative and integrated local energy systems projects.  Local Energy Scotland provide free and impartial advice on setting up energy projects in Scotland and also administer the Scottish Government's Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES), which offers grants and loans to support local energy development across Scotland. They can also point you in the direction of other useful funding and support.
  • Caron Ironside Project Officer, Perthshire Creates part of Culture Perth & Kinross, will talk about Visual Artists and Creative Makers Award and other funding for creatives. Caron trained in textile design with her creative practice involving hand screen printing and painting fabric to create homeware items. Caron worked with Culture Perth & Kinross to get the Perthshire Creates network up and running and has combined her previous career experience in event management and sales and marketing with her new chosen sector.  Working freelance for 2 years, Caron now works part time with CPK team responsible for the online presence and various events and activities Perthshire Creates organise to support the creative sector in the area, whilst also working on her creative interests.
  • Thomas Brock, Fund Director of BE Group Debt Finance ScotlandTom leads delivery of BE Group Debt Finance Scotland which aims to help Scottish SMEs access debt funding to accelerate their growth plans. He has held senior banking roles with Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland Corporate and Clydesdale Bank Group, where he created specialist propositions to support high growth SMEs predominantly in the technology sector
  • You'll also hear from Simon Yearsley of  The Scottish Deli in Dunkeld about his successful grant application and how he has put this to use, and Jamie Kunka of Lonely Mountain Skis who will talk about the impact funding has on his business.

GrowBiz XChange network evenings are informal and friendly events open to all – and a great opportunity to meet other local businesses and hear from experts in their field. The evening will kick off at 6.30pm with a buffet and networking. (Please note the slightly later start than usual)
