Team Tips for Stress Awareness Month
April is Stress Awareness Month, and since our team are contractors with their own businesses, they know that being self-employed can present challenges that make us feel anxious or tense. So we asked what works for them when it comes to limiting stress—and in this article we are sharing their top tips with you.
Starting us off is Angela, who says: “I find it helpful to figure out what the most important task of the day is and tackle that one early in the day (sometimes easier said than done!)
Kirsteen reminds us of the importance of just taking some deep breaths when things feel overwhelming—she says: “I find a few nice deep breaths really helps when I'm having a busy day.”
Team member Jenny’s go-to is a walk in the countryside with her dog, something that’s echoed by Caron, who adds:
“Daily dog walk is key, even if it's later in the day! Taking time away from the laptop for a coffee/lunch is also crucial, all too easy to keep at the screen. And a few strengthening exercises before the morning shower and also 2 mins blast of cold water at end of shower, both genuinely help kick start the day and I think avoid letting stress take over.”
Hayley says: “Exercise always helps when I remember to do it! A controversial one... but cutting down on caffeine has been a big one for me too.”
“Great ideas,” says Shareon, “I am so much more productive when I journal and exercise before work—getting some fresh air is also super important!”
Team member Abi’s tip is to take a break if feeling overwhelmed. “I’ve learnt that taking a break makes me more productive, not less, so not to be afraid of stepping away for a moment,” she says.
“Having a hobby where you can lose yourself for a wee while is my therapy. My two 'lose myself' hobbies are weeding and playing guitar,” is Karen’s top tip.
And finally, Corrie says, “I find #SmallBeauties a nice idea—taking time to appreciate something simple—a flower, a good coffee, a rainbow... “
We hope you find our team’s stress-busting ideas helpful as you run your business. And if a specific challenge or questions is causing you anxiety, remember you can get in touch for a free 1-1 session to get advice and support. Email us at connect@growbiz.co.uk
