GrowBiz Networking Event Highlights Young Entrepreneurs

GrowBiz is excited to welcome a panel of diverse young business owners to its free April XChange networking event on Thu, 29 April, 18:00 – 20:00.

It will be important to encourage more young people to stay in rural and island areas to ensure there’s a sustainable economic recovery. But there are many challenges to overcome, not least the problem of limited employment opportunities. With the right support, self-employment and business creation can provide a solution. And there are many young people who want to create their own futures through enterprise.

The young people featured at the event run their own businesses in rural Scotland and will be sharing their stories and plans for the future. The panel includes Laura Grace Caldwell, whose contemporary, bold and colourful polymer clay jewellery business, Wear With Grace, has exceeded all her expectations in its first year. Laura’s distinctive designs are heavily influenced by her background in theatre design, a love of photography and visual culture, as well as her rural Perthshire surroundings.

Also taking part will be Rory Boyd, based in the Cairngorms, who designed the Test & Protect app which is being used widely across Scotland. Jackie Brierton, CEO of GrowBiz, said, “This is a great opportunity to hear from enterprising young people who’ve created their own innovative businesses in rural areas of Scotland. They will inspire others to think about self-employment as an option, and we’re sure that anyone interested in enterprise, whatever their age, will find their experiences helpful and interesting.”

Jackie continued, “GrowBiz is here to help any young person who’s considering self-employment as a career option and can support them on the way to building their own thriving business.”

GrowBiz support services are free and confidential and include 1-1 advice, peer learning sessions, mentoring, and networking events, including the monthly XChange meeting.  GrowBiz events are informal and relaxed occasions, with plenty of opportunities to get involved and ask questions.
