Perthshire Artisans Welcomes Five New Members
Perthshire Artisans, the supportive platform for creatives established and run by GrowBiz Scotland, has welcomed five new Artisans to its membership. Pam Guthrie-Dawber, Lynn Shilp, Sabrin Miller, Claire Williamson and Wild Wood Bros (Hamish and Alistair Wood) all joined the curated community in July.
Membership offers business support, access to the community of artists providing peer support as well as marketing and an additional market place to showcase their creations. Their work joins the already diverse range of creative products available on the site. Hand-crafted ceramics, glass art, jewellery, paintings, woodwork, prints, mosaics, candles, homeware and clothing and more are represented on the online shop.
Pam Guthrie-Dawber brings Harris Tweed® clothing and accessories to Perthshire Artisans, with designs that enhance the beauty of this timeless and stylish fabric. She ensures minimal waste in her practice, finding a use for every last scrap of fabric, crafting accessories such as pins, fascinators, hairbands and scrunchies.
Lynn Shilp is a fused glass artist creating colourful and contemporary pieces, many inspired by Scotland’s seasons and scenery. Lynn’s home studio is within an historic old flax and tweed mill in the hamlet of Keltneyburn in Highland Perthshire. She captures the spectrum of bold and vibrant colours seen when out and about.
Sabrin Miller is a figurative artist who uses an unusual reductive technique, working in oils to create engaging artworks featuring Scottish wildlife and other much-loved animals. Beginning by covering the canvas in a dark oil paint, it’s the removal of paint that allows the image to evolve.
Claire Williamson is an artist who paints land and seascapes and also loves painting wildlife, with birds being a particular muse. She strives to capture the atmosphere, spirit and energy of what she sees and uses a variety of mixed media which she feels best captures the essence of the moment she’s choosing to paint.
Hamish and Alistair Wood, known jointly as the Wild Wood Bros, are self-taught joiners, furniture makers and wood craftsmen. From their workshop at Cultybraggan Camp near Comrie, they work together fulfilling large scale commissions and crafting furniture, smaller decorative items and kitchenware.
Caron Ironside, GrowBiz Facilitator for Perthshire Artisans said: “It’s exciting to have new creatives joining, bringing their own experiences to share and also benefiting from the collective support of the membership. It’s a joy to share their skill, craftsmanship and their products through the stories we share on the website and our social channels. We continue to support and showcase Perthshire’s vibrant creative landscape whilst supporting them in their businesses.”
Every purchase from the Perthshire Artisans online shop supports the Artisans and contributes to providing individual enterprise and peer support to help them grow their practice, enhance their skills and develop a sustainable income from their talents. It also offers shoppers an opportunity to buy locally and support a small business that works in a sustainable way.
